Its a good question because i have seen many bloggers who are not utilizing this awesome feature provided by Blogger. if you are not optimizing your blog's images then you are loosing a large quantity of traffic. We often use images in our blogs that are related to our content for making it more attractive but have you ever noticed that you are not optimizing your images to get additional traffic to your blog. As we all know today almost every search engine has an image searching tool where they show your blog images along with your blog URL and hence it is important for us to optimize our blogs for image search too. As i always use image search to search any widget because it saves my time and if we search through web search then we have to visit each and every blog to see that particular widget. In this tutorial i am going to show you how to optimize your blog's images in Blogger as well as in other platforms.

Why it is important to use image Alt tag ?

Using image alt tag is important because if you don't use an alt tag for a particular image then it may be difficult for search engine robots to categorize them. For example: Suppose you have uploaded an image in your blog post and not defined an alt tag for that image, even then search engine robots can easily crawl your image but it is difficult for them to categorize your images in best suitable category and hence it might be possible that they will not include your image in search results. But if you use an image alt tag for your images then it increases the possibility of your images to be categorized in best suitable category and hence as a result search engines will show your images in top positions whenever a query related to your image is inserted.

Using alt image tags is not a difficult task to do, it is as simple as saving a small file to your computer because it does not take much time or require much coding. So now without wasting time lets start the tutorial.

How to add an Alt tag to images in Blogger ?

• Log in to your Blogger Account.
• Then go to Dashboard >> Posts.
• Then select a post that you have already created or create a new post.
• Then upload an image or select a previously uploaded image.
• Now click on the image and then click on properties as shown in screenshot.

• Now in image properties you will see two fields : Title Text and Alt Text.

• Then enter your required title and alt text in Title and Alt text fields.
• Now click on OK tab and you are done.

Other important things for better SEO:

Rename your image: This is also an important step, before uploading your image make sure you have renamed it with the most suitable keywords.

Use dash instead of giving spaces while renaming images: If you are renaming an image with a sentence then always use dash for spacing words instead of giving spaces.

How to add image Alt tag on other platforms ?

You can use image alt tag for your images by using HTML as described below:

• In your HTML editor section just look for your blog's image URL which will look like: 

<img src="Your Image URL" /> (Before Adding Title and Alt Tags)

• Now with your image tag add Title and Alt tags as shown below:

<img src="Your Image URL" alt="Alt Text " title="Title Text" />  (After adding Title and Alt Tags)

• Then Save your page and you are done.
